How to Know When It Is Time to Replace Your Fridge

There comes a time when your fridge needs a replacement. You may want an upgrade, or it’s no longer cooling properly. But there are other tell-tale signs that you need to look out for before deciding whether a replacement or repair is the best option:

You may need to replace your fridge if:
  • Your power bills are skyrocketing
Your old reliable fridge from the ’80s or ’90s could be costing you more than what it’s worth since it’s already an energy hog. If this is what you’re experiencing, then your best bet is to pick out a new energy-efficient refrigerator with several energy stars.

  • Your fridge is making loud noises
If your refrigerator is making loud noises, the condenser fan motor could be the culprit. In fact, the condenser fan runs with the compressor and evaporator motor, so if this part is already defective, you will notice that your fridge is not staying cool as usual and it’s turning on and off more frequently.

  • Seals are gone or highly worn
If you open your fridge and you noticed there’s no longer suction or the suction seals are already worn out, then it’s maybe time to replace it because it can no longer keep your food and other perishables cool and fresh.

  • Fridge is getting uncomfortably hot
Usually, all electronics generate a small amount of heat as part of its operation, but if it starts getting uncomfortably hot, especially around the back of the fridge. It is advisable to check the motor as it could already be defective.

Common fridge issues and how to solve them
  • Water Leaking on the Floor
This issue can be caused by food particles and debris that clogs the drain hose. To fix this issue, you can drain the hole from the inside using warm water and a long slender instrument like a pipe cleaner to remove the clog.

  • Freezer Isn't Cold Enough
This problem is commonly caused by a faulty freezer evaporator fan. You should clean any dust and dirt that accumulated in and around the fan because this could be preventing the air from moving across the coils.

  • Water dripping from your fridge
If you noticed there’s a sheet of ice on the floor of your freezer and water dripping from your refrigerator, it’s probably a blocked defrost drain. You can easily fix this by unplugging the fridge and allowing it to defrost to unclog the defrost drain.

After trying all the remedies that I suggested above if you still find issues with your fridge, then maybe it’s time to contact a qualified repair specialist like QLD Washers who has the experience and equipment to properly fix your refrigerator. Or it may be time to consider buying a new fridge.

A qualified technician will provide you with several repair options like replacing certain part or a whole set of parts just to bring your fridge to its full operating condition. Our Brisbane washing machine service and fridge service are recommended in the area.

What you need to consider before buying a new refrigerator
Before buying a new fridge, you should first measure your current machine (width, depth and height) and make sure to get a new one with the same dimensions, since it will be more ideal on your kitchen.

You should also consider the features of your new fridge and the convenience it can provide you in the long run. Most importantly, check its energy-saving features and ratings – make sure it will more energy efficient than your current one.

Things you should know about Warranties
When it comes to fridges, there are two types of warranties, and this will include the following:
  • Manufacturer’s warranty
This is usually a contract that happens when you purchase a refrigerator and is generally included in the sales price. Under this warranty, you are entitled to replacement and repairs of parts for one year.

  • Extended Warranty
This particular contract is an extension of a standard manufacturer’s warranty and you are covered for up to five years, and you pay nothing at all for any repair and replacement during that time. Although you need to pay an additional cost to get an extended warranty.

Warranties are essential when you’re buying a new fridge, and you’ll never know when it will encounter issues in the long run. You need to be covered when it happens so that you won’t spend a lot of money on a costly repair.
